Kazakh 20,000 Tenge banknote wins Regional Banknote of the Year award

The National Bank of Kazakhstan received the prestigious award at the European High Security Print conference which took place in Bucharest, Romania this week. The award is made in recognition of the design, technical sophistication and security of a banknote.

The 20,000 Tenge banknote, printed by the Banknote Factory of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, is the highest denomination issued in Kazakhstan. The banknote perfectly reflects the Kazakh commitment to be at the forefront of banknote technology with a number of firsts. It is the first full circulation banknote to be printed on Landqart’s Durasafe® substrate; the first Durasafe banknote to contain two threads; the first banknote in the world to have two differently coloured layers of paper; and the first to have OVI ink printed directly across two materials (cotton banknote paper and transparent polymer).

All these technologies and features have been perfectly integrated into the design in a way that maintains harmony with the ‘Samruk’ family of banknotes. The note entered into circulation on December 1st, 2015, and was well received by the public and the industry. Landqart is very proud to work in partnership with the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its Banknote Factory, and we extend our most sincere congratulations for the international acclaim it has received.
